Q. What are omega-3 fatty acids?
Here’s the short answer: They are essential fatty acids found in fish that are shown to support human health in a number of ways.
Here’s the technical answer: Omega−3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) characterized by the presence of a double bond three atoms away from the terminal methyl group in their chemical structure. They play an important role in the human diet and in human physiology, and are present throughout the human body.
The three types of omega−3 fatty acids involved in human physiology are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), found in plant oils, and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), both of which are commonly found in marine oils. When people talk about fish oil, they are talking about EPA and DHA.
Humans are unable to synthesize (make for ourselves) the essential omega−3 fatty acid ALA and can only obtain it through diet, which they can then use to form the long-chain omega−3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA. This conversion process is slow and inefficient, which is why it’s best to obtain EPA and DHA from marine dietary sources directly.
In foods exposed to air, unsaturated fatty acids are vulnerable to oxidation and rancidity, which is one of the reasons why Coromega protects all its products from oxygen and light.

Q. Can we get Omega-3’s from our foods?
Generally, no. Many researchers believe that the majority of Omega-3 food sources have disappeared from the modern diet. The foods that are now considered “mainstream” are often deficient in Omega-3. Even if your diet includes several meals of fish per week, you may not be ingesting sufficient amounts of Omega-3. This is because much of the fish we consume is now farm raised or does not contain significant amounts of Omega-3. Ideally, your diet should supply at least 650 mg of long chain Omega-3 (DHA + EPA) per day, either from food sources or dietary supplementation. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in deep, cold-water fish, such as salmon, mackerel and sardines. One packet of Coromega provides 650 mg of Omega-3, the amount recommended by the NIH (National Institutes of Health).
Q. Why are omega-3 fatty acids good for me?
Every cell in the human body contains omega-3 fatty acids – they play a critical role in keeping us healthy and keeping many of our important bodily systems working properly.
Researchers have conducted more than 25,000 clinical studies on fish oil, omega-3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA (together and alone), and the results have demonstrated over and over that omega-3 is important to maintaining human health. Since our bodies can’t produce omega-3 fatty acids on their own, we must rely on getting healthy fat from our diets. Fish provides an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) while ALA can be obtained from the consumption of a variety of fatty acid rich grains, nuts, seeds and fruits – including flax seeds, and hemp.
The health benefits are widely known, and have been known to people for centuries. Some research suggests that omega-3 fatty acids may lower triglycerides in the blood, benefit pregnancy, improve heart health, and possibly also decrease your likelihood of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease or cognitive decline.
The FDA has approved the following 5 qualified health claims for omega-3 fatty acids:
1. Blood pressure and hypertension: Consuming EPA and DHA combined may help lower blood pressure in the general population and reduce the risk of hypertension. However, FDA has concluded that the evidence is inconsistent and inconclusive. One serving of Coromega provides 2,000 mg(s) of EPA and DHA.
2. Blood pressure and hypertension: Consuming EPA and DHA combined may reduce blood pressure and reduce the risk of hypertension, a risk factor for CHD (coronary heart disease). However, FDA has concluded that the evidence is inconsistent and inconclusive. One serving of Coromega provides 2,000 mg(s) of EPA and DHA.
3. Coronary Heart Disease:
a. Consuming EPA and DHA combined may reduce the risk of CHD (coronary heart disease) by lowering blood pressure. However, FDA has concluded that the evidence is inconsistent and inconclusive. One serving of Coromega provides 2,000 mg(s) of EPA and DHA.
b. Consuming EPA and DHA combined may reduce the risk of CHD (coronary heart disease) by reducing the risk of hypertension. However, FDA has concluded that the evidence is inconsistent and inconclusive. One serving of Coromega provides 2,000 mg(s) of EPA and DHA.
4. Blood pressure: Research shows that consuming EPA and DHA combined may be beneficial for moderating blood pressure, a risk factor for CHD (coronary heart disease). However, FDA has concluded that the evidence is inconsistent and inconclusive. One serving of Coromega provides 2,000 mg(s) of EPA and DHA.
5. Coronary Heart Disease: Supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.
Q. How pure is your fish oil?
Our omega-3 fish is 5X more pure than the industry standard.* Since the creation of the Coromega brand of products, Coromega has selected for use in its products, only the finest ultra-refined fish oil.Our fish oil originates deep within the wild fishing stocks in the clear waters of South America. It is further purified through the process of molecular distillation, removing unwanted levels of carcinogenic and environmental contaminants. These offending toxins are; PCBs, Dioxins, Dioxin-like PCBs, Furans and the heavy metals of Lead, Cadmium, Mercury and Arsenic. The fully ultra-refined fish oil is then delivered to our US based manufacturing facility for use in the exceptional Coromega brand product line.Whereas others may claim high purity levels that meet the industry standard for purity, Coromega brand products exceed the industry standards by at least 5 times.

Q. What is the source for Coromega’s omega-3?
Coromega gets its omega-3 fish oil (in natural triglyceride form) from fish caught in the cold, deep waters of the Pacific Ocean off the coast of South America. Fish is a superior source for EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids, and is preferred over plant sources of ALA. When we consume ALA from seeds or other sources, our bodies must convert ALA to EPA and DHA in order to make use of it. The conversion rate from ALA to EPA/DHA is remarkably low, which is why most experts recommend using marine sources for omega-3. Our oil is certified sustainable by Friends of the Sea©
Q. Who should take omega-3?
We believe that most people can benefit from omega-3 fatty acids, since it plays such a crucial role in the proper function of our bodily systems. Check with your doctor if you have any questions or concerns about whether omega-3 supplements are for you.
Q. How much omega-3 should I take?
The American Heart Association recommends that people consume 1,000 – 4,000 mg of combined EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids each day, depending on their health, and recommends that people with high triglycerides take between 2,000 – 4,000 mg. The FDA has stated that up to 3,000mg of omega-3 fatty acid from any dietary or supplement source is safe. There is some disagreement among scientists regarding how much omega-3 is needed, and there is no established recommended daily allowance recommended by the FDA the way there is for some other supplements that people commonly take. Coromega recommends that you consult a doctor for specific advice regarding how much you should take each day.
Q. Does fish oil reduce inflammation in the human body?
There are studies which suggest that the omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil may reduce inflammation.

Q. The Coromega 300% Absorption Advantage.
Coromega’s unique emulsified formulation has been clinically shown to provide a 300% absorption advantage – that means you have to take 3 times as many softgels in order to get the benefits of a single serving of Coromega. As an example, in order to get the same benefit as a single pouch of Coromega Max you have to take up to six (6) softgels of the highest concentrate fish oil on the market!
Other liquid and emulsified brands claim to share Coromega’s absorption advantage, and they even use our study to make the claim! But none can truly compete with Coromega.
Q. What is cGMP and why is it important?
Coromega’s manufacturing facility is NSF cGMP certified. To learn what that means and why it’s important please keep reading.
Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) is a system for ensuring that products are consistently produced and controlled according to rigorous quality standards. It is designed to minimize the risks involved in any nutritional supplement production that cannot be eliminated merely through testing the final product. GMP covers all aspects of production from the starting materials, premises, and equipment to the training and personal hygiene of staff. Detailed written procedures are essential for each process that could affect the quality of the finished product, and there are systems to provide documented proof that correct procedures are consistently followed at each step in the manufacturing process - every time a product is made.
Coromega has owned and operated its own cGMP manufacturing facility for 20 years – during that time we have been making high quality finished nutritional supplements for you and your family, and we take our job very seriously! In a nutshell, this means that our facility is regularly audited and recertified to the highest manufacturing standards and this high quality is reflected in all our products. In addition, our facility is certified by NSF International, the leading third-party health and safety certification organization.
You can trust that we are committed to using the highest quality ingredients to produce the highest quality product on the market.
